This is a poster for the French Government Railway bond sale from 1967.

I’ve posted a few of these images on this blog. When you look at them togetehr they are quite interesting.

Typically, the posters are designed by French poster artists in a style that combines modernist geometry with painterly effects.

I would say that these posters provide an inexpensive and interesting field for collectors…

This is not quite a railway…it’s a royal bathing machine that runs on tracks and into the sea. It’s from San Sebastien, in Spain, and from 1908. It’s part of the Miramar Palace, designed for the Spanish Royal family by the British architect, Ralph Selden Wornum.

This image combines a number of my interests…seaside and exotic, and with a nod to the railway and to the British arts-and-crafts movement.

I love the Indian style roofs on the pavillion. They are a sort of stylised chhatri (I think), and look a bit like the kinds of things the British architect, Lutyens, designed in India.

How lovely.

Michael Portillo has just started another set of US railway journeys. This time around the north-eastern part of the country…Boston etc.

I know these are simply cheap TV…he sits on a train, talks to the people on the train, and gets off to speak to people who want some free advertising.

The amazing thing, is that this is all quite interesting in a small-town American way…
