This is a coloured photo-litho print of the LNER A3 Pacific Class Flying Scotsman.
I think this was made as a carriage print – it’s about the right size in landscape format.
The engine was built at Doncaster in 1923. You can find out all about it on the www and from the National Railway Museum in York. The engine has been restored and is currently painted in matte black, as during WW2. It’s quite impressive like that.
Dear Mr Rennie,
I have a framed version of this that was given to me by my grandfather who helped to build the Flying Scotsman. The picture was given to him as a gift on the completion of the build which was customary at the time. Your picture is the only other one I have ever seen.
Regards,
Ian Berry
I too have a copy of this print on my wall.
My understanding is that they were produced to sell at the 1924 exhibition where 4472 was on display.
